Internet Explorer was once the most popular web browser, largely because it was bundled with Windows operating systems. Since its debut in 1995, Microsoft had been consistently developing the browser before the company finally decided to end its support for good in favor of Edge.

The declining popularity of Internet Explorer has been started since the launch of Firefox, and the existence of Google Chrome has made the situation even worse for the browser. But the browser isn’t completely dead yet.

Features and Highlights

Opening web pages in tabs is a standard feature among web browsers. In Internet Explorer, the tabs can be placed below or next to the address bar, whichever suits you best.

The quickest way to open a new tab is by using Ctrl + T, and Ctrl + W to close it down.

When you click a link on a web page to open it in a new tab, the browser groups the tabs automatically under the same color.

Each tab group has a different color. Unfortunately, the group cannot be collapsed, which could be a huge issue for users who need to open a lot of tabs.

When you open too many tabs that exceed the maximum number the browser can displays, the browser hides some unused tabs and shows an arrow button at both ends of the tab bar that allows you to access the hidden ones. This way of handling excessive tabs is actually better than Google Chrome but the lack of collapsible tab group makes it less enticing than it should be.

In Internet Explorer, the address bar has an additional function as a search engine. Try to input some words like ‘the most expensive cars in the world’ in the address bar and Bing will open in the current tab with the search result.

InPrivate Browsing is a privacy protection feature that lets you browse the internet without leaving traces on the computer. The other option available to protect your privacy is by configuring the browser to delete browsing history automatically on exit.

In terms of security, Internet Explorer is protected with Windows Defender SmartScreen. While InPrivate Browsing protects you from everyone else who has access to the same computer, this security feature protects you from phishing and malware.

Internet Explorer also ships with an RSS feed reader that allows you to get the latest updates of websites you subscribe to. The feed reader can be made visible all the time on the left side. Anytime you want to read a feed, click its icon and the content of the feed will open in the current tab.

Internet Explorer has now been retired by Microsoft, replaced by the more promising Edge. Even so, there are still users who haven’t bid farewell to Internet Explorer.

They still use it to browse web pages on the internet, either because they aren’t ready for the change or reluctant to embrace the change, or because other reasons. There could be plenty of reasons that drive the decision to stick to the legacy browser. You can click the link below to download Internet Explorer for Windows:
